In addition to keeping goals realistic and specific, here are 5 tips for the New Year:
1. Learn to delegate and to say no when the workload becomes too much. It’s easy to take on too much at once, especially as a small business owner, but it’s important to learn when enough is enough to avoid burning out.
2. Making a business plan shouldn’t stop after the final draft has been accepted. By holding frequent business plan meetings, you’ll be able to make any changes to the plan as new developments occur, so you can focus your time and energy on the best strategies.
3. In a similar vein, be sure to scrap anything that isn’t working. It’s easy to fall into the trap of trying to make the unworkable workable. This can be a waste of time and energy, so don’t be afraid to let things go.
4. Promote your business often and consistently. Promotion gains new clients, so get your message out there as much as possible. Only promote what fit your business’ values to avoid mixed messages.
5. A great promotional tool is joining a business organization or networking group, such as your local Chamber of Commerce. Networking face to face a significant way to spark new ideas, learn business tips, and make contacts.
A new year means new challenges, but setting goals can help relieve some of the stress. Don’t forget to include personal goals and take care of yourself as well.
